Done in mixed media. Another piece for my AP portfolio. This was actually one of my favorites. I decided to do a quick profile of my grandmother and concentrated on the character in her face. I also tried to use a different style of shading and stroke in the drawing. I ripped the paper, glued it onto a wooden base, hammered the edges to make it more unique, and blow torched parts of it to symbolize decay. I'm not really a depressing person! Lol, the theme of all these works was centered on conveying emotion throughout the entire piece through technique and experimentation. I find the piece quite provocative and beautiful as it depicts what we will become but at the same time quite dark and sad.

Lol, yeah, I agree! At least until I get old! Thank you both for your comments. This is a new style I have been experimenting with. I really tried to connect the whole piece with age and emotion.

what a fasinating picture, I love the sketchy portrait and the look on her face, I don't get why we all hate wrinkles when we age they give us such character!

You have a Very electic style.
Beautiful.
Great portrait drawing.....the layering and cracked surfaces suit the subject well in my opinion because she appears to be fairly elderly therefore she would have many layers to her life.
